Viewing Compressed PostScript on Windows

To view compressed postscript with Windows we recommend using GSview 2.2, which can automatically read compressed files. Note that versions prior to 2.2 cannot handle compressed files.

GSview is a free postscript viewer for Windows, based on the Ghostscript interpreter. It supports full-text searching and hyperlinks. It is freely available software.

GSview is available for Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT and OS/2.

Installation

  • You will need GSview, version 2.2 or later. A ZIP file is available from the Ghostscript web site, http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost. Follow the installation instructions that come with GSview.
  • As part of the GSview installation you will need to install Ghostscript (it is available at the same site, also as a ZIP file).
  • All the instructions you need for configuring GSview as a postscript viewer for Netscape or Internet Explorer are also at the Ghostscript web site. (See the GSview section, http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/).

You may want to tweak the GSview Media - Display Settings to improve the display of the text. You can also change the window size to fit the page.

Use the Options - Save Settings Now command to make any changes permanent.

Finally, if all of this turns out to not to work, change from Windows to some other operating system.
